DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance in collaboration with Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) and IIT Roorkee jointly brings to you – Continuing Biotechnology Education Lecture Series - a set of 6 lectures delivered every alternate month.
The fourth lecture of the series is on Genome Editing in Animals for enhancing productivity.
Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) are a family of DNA sequences found in prokaryotic genomes which can detect and then shred DNA of invading bacteriophages from which this CRISPR were evolutionarily derived. CRISPR sequences along with the Cas9 enzyme system, contribute to the acquired immunity of bacteria against phage viruses. CRISPR-Cas system has manifold applications in human and animal sciences including:
-
Agricultural Biotechnology
-
Treatment of congenital diseases
-
Novel antibiotics/antivirals development
-
Drug Discovery
-
CRISPR-Dx: Diagnostics of diseases.
The discussions on this advanced methodology will help the listeners to apply the expertise in their domains of interest.
This lecture will be followed by a session on ‘Funding Opportunities at India Alliance’ which will introduce the participants to the various grants and fellowships offered by India Alliance.
