CMS exam is the short name for the Combined Medical Services Exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission(UPSC). The UPSC CMS exam is a two-stage exam conducted across the nation to recruit doctors for the Indian Railway hospitals and other government Municipal hospitals.     The UPSC CMS exam is conducted every year to recruit several eligible candidates across 5 different positions in 2 categories as given below:

    Category 1: Junior Scale Posts in Central Health Services

    Category 2

    • Assistant Divisional Medical Officer in the Railways

    • Assistant Medical Officer in Indian Ordnance Factories Health Services

    • General Duty Medical Officer in New Delhi Municipal Council

    • General Duty Medical Grade-II in East Delhi Municipal Corporation, North Delhi Municipal Corporation and South Delhi Municipal Corporation

    UPSC CMS 2025 Eligibility

    There are multiple parameters which are taken into consideration with respect to eligibility criterias for selection in UPSC CMS 2022 Exam as given below:

     

    Nationality

    A candidate is eligible for appearing in UPSC CMS 2025 Exam if he/she is

    • a citizen of India, or

    • a subject of Nepal, or

    • a subject of Bhutan, or

    • a Tibetan refugee who migrated to India prior to January 1, 1962 to permanently settle in the country

    • a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with intention of permanently settling in India.

     

    Age Limit

    • The maximum age limit of all aspiring candidates is 32 years as on Aug 1, 2024 which means that he/she should not be born before Aug 02, 1988. However, there are some relaxations in the upper age-limit considered by the commission for specific categories as given below:

    Educational Qualifications

    As part of the eligibility criteria for UPSC CMS 2022 Exam, all candidates must have passed the written as well as practicals of final M.B.B.S examination. Though there is a provision for candidates who have appeared or are planning to appear at the final M.B.B.S. Examination, where they can apply for the examination but the admission would be deemed to be provisional and subject to cancellation, unless they submit proof of passing both the written and the practical part of the final M.B.B.S. Examination.      

     

    UPSC CMS 2024 Cut off

    Union Public Services Commission releases the cut-off scores for the exam only after the exam has been conducted. There are several criterias which determines the cut-off scores for the UPSC CMS 2022 Exam which includes:

    • Difficulty level of the exam

    • No. of candidates appearing for the exam

    • Total no. of vacancies as per the official communication

     

    UPSC CMS 2025 Exam Pattern

    UPSC CMS 2025 Exam is organized by the Union Public Service Commission in two parts. Part I is a Computer-based Online Test with two papers, each paper carrying a 250 marks maximum. All candidates who qualify in the Part I i.e. the Online Exam, are then selected for Part II which is an Interview or Personality Test Round with a weightage of 100 Marks.

    • Mode of exam: Computer-based test

    • Language: English

    • Time Duration: 2 hours for each paper

    • Type of question: Objective-type (MCQ)

    • Maximum Marks: 250 for each paper

    • Marking scheme: 1/3rd negative marking for each wrong answer, No marks is deducted if the candidates do not mark an answer to a question

    The UPSC CMS 2025 Written exam comprises 2 Papers. Both papers are objective-type (MCQ) computer-based online tests. The details of the written exam are given below:

    UPSC CMS 2025 Exam Pattern - Interview

    The candidates who clear the written exam as determined by the cut off released by UPSC are selected for the interview at the UPSC office in New Delhi. All qualifying candidates are required to bring their certifications both academic and professional at the time of the interview for the document verification purposes. The maximum marks for the UPSC CMS interview also called as the Personality Test is 100 marks. There is no set pattern for the interview process and the questions and discussion can vary from candidate to candidate based on their academic background and the specialisation they have done in their masters (if any).

    UPSC considers the cummulative scores of the Written Exam and the interview to determine and release the final UPSC CMS 2022 results.
