Job Description:
Responsibilities
- Prepare the endoscopy suite before scheduled procedures.
- Assist gastroenterologists during upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, ERCP, EUS, bronchoscopy (where applicable), and other therapeutic procedures.
- Prepare patients for procedures by verifying identity, obtaining required documentation, and positioning patients appropriately.
- Set up and test endoscopy equipment, monitors, video processors, insufflators, suction systems, and accessories.
- Prepare biopsy forceps, snares, injection needles, clips, guidewires, balloons, and other endoscopic accessories.
- Assist in obtaining tissue biopsies and specimen collection while ensuring proper labeling and transportation to the laboratory.
- Monitor patient comfort and assist clinical staff in observing vital signs during procedures.
- Perform high-level disinfection (HLD), cleaning, leak testing, drying, and storage of endoscopes according to infection prevention protocols.
- Maintain endoscope reprocessing documentation and traceability records.
- Inspect endoscopes and accessories for functionality and report defects promptly.
- Maintain inventory of consumables, accessories, disinfectants, and emergency equipment.
- Ensure crash cart, oxygen supply, suction equipment, and emergency medications are readily available.
- Assist in conscious sedation procedures under the supervision of the medical team.
- Prepare procedure reports, maintain patient records, and complete departmental documentation.
- Coordinate with Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), Biomedical Engineering, Nursing, and Housekeeping for smooth departmental operations.
- Follow hospital policies, infection control practices, biomedical waste management, and patient safety protocols.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and departmental training programs.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient information and compliance with hospital standards.
Qualification & Experience
- Diploma/Bachelor's Endoscopy Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, or Allied Health Sciences.
- Certification in Endoscopy Technology is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is preferred.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is an added advantage.
