7th Advanced National Workshop - Hospital Infection Control
7th Advanced National Workshop - Hospital Infection Control

About the Workshop Hospital Infection Control and Prevention (HICP) unit of the Department of Microbiology, JIPMER Puducherry will be conducting the ‘7th Advanced National Workshop on Hospital Infection Control’ between 23rd to 26th January 2024 (for four days) in JIPMER Pondicherry, India. The target group will be- (i) faculty/consultants (MD/DNB) working in infection control; (ii) Microbiology MD/DNB postgraduates (2nd and final year only) and (iii) infection control nurses. Infection Control is an essential component of any health care delivery system. Implementing infection control measures such as standard precautions like hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, environmental disinfection, equipment disinfection/sterilization etc. and transmission-based precautions can prevent the spread of microorganisms in health care settings. In times of COVID pandemic, the requirement of infection prevention and control (IPC) practices has increased manifolds. Unfortunately, an effective and robust infection control programme is lacking in most of the healthcare facilities in India and there is a dearth of infection preventionists in our country. Microbiologists play a crucial role in implementing the infection control programme and to initiate antimicrobial stewardship measures. Hospital infection control units in most of the healthcare facilities in India are supervised by microbiologists. More so, when the Government of India is planning to bring the infection control as a separate learning objective for the MBBS students, it is of utmost importance for every microbiologist to enhance their knowledge and hone their skills on infection control. Nurses are key in executing and implementing the infection control programme in health care services. Infection control nurses (ICNs) are the pillars of Hospital infection control and prevention (HICP) unit of the healthcare facilities. ICNs perform rounds, audits, surveillances and ensure the implementation of various infection control activities. Unfortunately, there are paucity of training program for infection control nurses in India. This workshop aims at providing training on various aspects of hospital infection control which range from hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, HAI Surveillance, bundle care audit, needle stick injury, biomedical waste audit, environmental surveillance, disinfectant policy, CSSD, endotoxin testing etc.   Course fees Rs 10,000/- for Doctor Registration Maximum :100 Eligibility: MD/DNB microbiologists who are either faculty, consultants or, AND working/about to work as infection control officer (preferably) or an active part of hospital infection control unit. Asian Stigma & Discrimination Forum 2022
Asian Stigma & Discrimination Forum 2022

The Asian Stigma & Discrimination Forum 2022 will take place on 13 June 2022 prior to  Asia-Pacific AIDS & Co-Infections Conference (APACC 2022). As shown by the significant and increasing reports of cities and countries achieving the 90-90-90 targets and beyond, HIV is now a treatable infection. In the past few years, there have been advances not only in the efficacy of medication but, equally importantly, in their toxicity profile and ease of administration. This has led to greater adherence overall, resulting in positive long-term results. However, large groups of individuals either remain undiagnosed or are diagnosed but do not seek care. Indeed, undiagnosed individuals form the most significant gap in our 90-90-90 targets. For further improvements in our cascades of care, these groups must be targeted. But why does this happen? Undoubtedly, this issue has much to do with fear. The fear of testing, receiving a positive diagnosis, attending an HIV center, and the subsequent discrimination that either does or is perceived to occur. Such fears result in unnecessary morbidity and mortality, mainly due to late diagnosis, along with an increased risk of transmission within the population. Change is coming! We are, however, striving to make a change, and there are success stories! Come and hear how you can challenge and be part of the solution to stigma and discrimination. Listen to stories of both success and failure from our experienced faculty. The triumph of HIV treatment can only truly begin when we can succeed in improving testing and linkage to care. We are all beholden to take part in this challenge.   About Organizer Co-Founded in 1998 by Alice Posthumus-Plantinga and the late Charles Boucher, Virology Education started with an interactive course on HIV & resistance and was key in recognizing the lack of options for knowledge sharing among professionals. This realization became the basis for all future initiatives. Virology Education has since grown to over 50 annual programs across the globe.    Unique Features Half-Day Forum Keynote Lectures Panel Discussion Audience Discussion   Who Should Attend? Clinician/ Physicians Health administrators Nurses   Meeting Objectives The objectives of this workshop are to: Highlight the issues of stigma and discrimination in different settings and from different perspectives; Summarize key strategies for the elimination of stigma and discrimination; Discuss the impact of stigma and discrimination on prevention and treatment strategies; Strengthen the HIV care cascade, focusing on local solutions to fight stigma and discrimination   Registration Click here to register for the Asian Stigma & Discrimination Forum 2022.   Language The official language of the forum is English.   Certificate of Attendance A digital certificate of attendance will be sent to participants after successfully completing the forum and post-meeting survey.   For more information, click here.
